Acura History:
Acura was the first Japanese luxury brand to appear in the U.S. market, and since its arrival it has offered the luxury car world a consistently appealing combination of precision, performance and comfort.
The Legend sedan, the first Acura, appeared in 1986. Since then, the Acura lineup has grown to serve a wide range of drivers who share a common interest in luxury and performance. A large part of the success of the Legend can be attributed to the fact that it set a new standard for luxury based on qualities that were rare in luxury cars of the day, such as precise handling, responsive powertrains and excellent road manners. In this respect, Acura has had a significant effect on the way people think about luxury cars. Shortly thereafter, the Acura Legend sedan was joined by the Acura Legend coupe and the Acura Integra sport coupes and sedans. The Integra featured attractive contours, high performance potential and outstanding engineering credentials at a competitive price. Its extensive technological innovations, crisp handling and everyday practicality made it the favorite of a generation of enthusiast drivers.
1986 -Acura debuts in North America as the first Japanese luxury marque.
1990 - exotic Acura NSX sport coupe arrived to great fanfare, bringing a host of new technologies to the automotive world;
1991 - Acura Legend coupe won Motor Trend's prestigious Import Car of the Year trophy. The same year, the Integra took the laurels as one of Car & Driver's Ten Best, and the Acura Vigor sport sedan was introduced, bridging the gap between the sporty Integra and the luxurious Legend.
1996 The CL coupe is introduced as a '97 model
1997 - The Integra Type-R is introduced.The Civic-based 1.6EL replaces the Integra sedan in the Canadian lineup, while the Integra sedan continued U.S. sales until 2001.
2001 - The MDX wins the prestigious Motor Trend "2001 Sport/Utility of the Year" award. Civic-based 1.7EL launched, replacing the 1.6EL, in the Canadian lineup.
2002 - Acura RSX replaces Integra name in North America. Integra, first introduced in 1986
2003 - CL is dropped.
2004 - Honda de Mexico. 3rd generation Acura TL is introduced. TSX is introduced. TSX becomes very competitive choice against popular BMW 3-series.
2005 - Acura RL is introduced with revolutionary SH-AWD system Acura drops engine size from 1.7EL model name.
2006 - Acura is introduced in China. Acura RDX is introduced with SH-AWD Acura introduces CSX to replace EL, and is only sold in Canada. Acura RSX is dropped.
2007 - Acura MDX receives a redesign. Acura TL Type-S is reintroduced, CSX Type-S is introduced.
2008 - Acura announces the introduction of the diesel engine into the lineup.
Acura introduces the new RL, which receives a mid model change redesign at the Chicago Auto Show. new TSX at the New York Auto Show.
2009 Acura TSX, CSX, TL receives a redesign.
Acura TL receives a redesign. introduces the Acura ZDX prototype, a luxury four-door sports coupe, at the New York International Auto Show.\

1. For 2009, all Acura models include as standard equipment the Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure along with a host of other standard safety equipment including Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®), anti-lock braking system (ABS), dual-stage/dual-threshold front airbags, front-side airbags with passenger side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS), side airbags for all outboard seating positions, front seats with integrated active head restraints, front seatbelts with automatic tensioning system and load limiters, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and Daytime Running Lights (DRL).
2. Acura's ACE™ body structure is designed to help absorb the energy of a frontal crash, while also helping to minimize the potential for an "under-ride" or "over-ride" phenomenon that can occur during frontal impact with a significantly larger, smaller, higher or lower vehicle. ACE™ channels frontal crash energy to both upper and lower structural elements, including the floor frame rails, side sills and A-pillars. These specially engineered load pathways help distribute frontal impact forces through a greater percentage of the vehicle's total structure and away from the passenger compartment.
3.A dealership can be a downright scary place for someone looking to buy a new car, with four-box scams, shady financing, dodgy service, and pushy salesmen. Consulting firm Pied Piper surveyed customers at 1,592 dealerships to show what we already knew, that not all dealer experiences are created equal. The survey covered the customer service regardless of whether or not the perspective buyer actually purchased a vehicle. Predictably, luxury car dealerships topped the list, lead by Acura and Land Rover, but volume brands Saturn, Nissan, and VW were among the automakers that scored above the industry average. The folks from Pied Piper say Acura scored in the "top five or six" across the board regardless of whether the customer bought anything. Honda, Toyota, and Hyundai were right at the industry average in the customer survey, and Ford, Chevy, and Chrysler all scored below the Mendoza line.

If you‘re looking for an example of the changes going on at Acura, look no farther than the all-new 2007 MDX sport-utility. The previous MDX -- high-tech, capable and yet somehow completely forgettable--summed up the entire Acura lineup pretty adequately. Another new SUV? Isn‘t the sport-utility market collapsing as buyers turn away from gas-guzzling sport-utes? What‘s Acura‘s gambit with the all-new RDX?
2. don't know what makes you think its not a luxury brand. where i live, its considered right up there with most of the others...and i live in a supposedly well-to-do area. just because their cars are not ridiculously overpriced doesn't make them non-luxury.
3. I went to Acura and they even gave me the TL for an afternoon as I had been there 3-4times.At teh end I told them the G35 was it, ans it was all because the FWD - they accepted it and said they hope Acura is working on a solution (maybe they meant the SH-AWD)
But, last time me and my brother went to Ford, he was looking at a Fusion, we waited outside for 15min, no one showed, we went inside for 15min and no one showed, so we just left as we were leaving the sales guy asks if we were all set. we said yeap and left.
